About this opportunity

CISPA – Helmholtz Center for Information Security is seeking highly motivated PhD candidates to join Group Windl and conduct research at the intersection of human-centered privacy and interactive technologies in Germany. The PhD positions offer an opportunity for researchers to investigate how intelligent, sensor-rich environments can respect human values and develop responsibly alongside their users.

PhD candidates will join an international research environment at CISPA's locations in St. Ingbert and Saarbrücken, Germany. Research areas include human-centered privacy, human-computer interaction (HCI), usable privacy and security, privacy risks in emerging technologies, AI privacy decision-making, tangible/interactive privacy interfaces, IoT, augmented reality, robotics, and empirical research methods. The methodology combines empirical studies (interviews, surveys, lab/field studies) with system design and technical prototyping (sensors, embedded hardware, AR, IoT).

Positions are fully funded under a full-time gross base salary at the TVöD E13 level according to German federal public service employment agreements. Additional benefits include health insurance, 30 days of paid vacation, a pension scheme, funding for research travel and equipment, onboarding support, and free German language classes.
