About this opportunity

WoMin is inviting applications for the Women Building Power for Climate Justice Lead position, a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced African feminist and climate justice advocate. The remote position is designed for a Francophone African woman based in West Africa, with a three-year renewable contract subject to funding and performance.

WoMin, an African ecofeminist alliance launched in October 2013, works with women’s organisations, peasants, mining-affected communities, and allied organisations to challenge the harmful impacts of extractive industries on African women and communities. Through this recruitment, WoMin seeks an experienced leader to guide its Women’s Climate Justice (WCJ) programme and strengthen an African women-led movement for climate justice. The successful candidate will advance feminist and Pan-African approaches to environmental justice, particularly campaigns addressing oil and gas extraction, false green energy solutions, climate reparations, and community-centred energy alternatives.

Key responsibilities include providing overall strategic direction for the WCJ programme, leading oil and gas campaigns, strengthening movements across West Africa, facilitating political education and participatory research, coordinating engagement with networks such as the African Climate Justice Collective (ACJC) and African Union platforms, as well as managing operational plans, budgets, fundraising, donor relations, and communications.

Who Can Apply

Applicants must be a Francophone African woman based in Francophone West Africa. Required qualifications include a relevant postgraduate degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Human Rights, Gender Studies, Environmental Studies, or a related discipline (or equivalent professional experience). Candidates should have 8–10 years of relevant professional experience, including at least 5 years in programme or project development, management, and coordination, alongside proven experience supporting grassroots organising, feminist/women's rights initiatives, and advocacy at sub-regional or Pan-African levels.
