About this opportunity
StartClim invites applications for its 2026 research program grant call, supporting innovative projects that address questions relevant to Austria’s climate adaptation strategy. Marking its 24th call, the program focuses on research projects that help set the foundation for new work. The 2026 call is structured around key thematic blocks, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and social media in climate communication, learning from effective adaptation measures in Austria, forest regeneration in the context of climate change, and nature-based solutions for climate-adapted soil management, soil erosion reduction, and water retention. Applicants may also propose a freely chosen topic provided it maintains a clear link to Austria’s climate adaptation strategy.
Financial support is provided under a work contract (Werkvertrag) model, offering 100% funding coverage up to a maximum budget framework of €25,000 per project (inclusive of all taxes and ancillary costs). Proposals must budget for an overhead of 25% of personnel costs. Selected projects contribute directly to generating practical knowledge and actionable approaches for climate adaptation in Austria.
