About this opportunity

The Carl & Marilynn Thoma Foundation offers the Art of the Spanish Americas Conservation Grant to support conservation projects and research initiatives focused on South American viceregal art. Awarded by an international jury of experts, this grant provides up to $50,000 annually to selected proposals.

The grant aims to preserve and conserve South American viceregal art through various project stages, from initial planning to advanced implementation. It supports projects involving preventive conservation, artwork restoration, acquisition of laboratory equipment, and the organization of workshops or symposia. Successful projects are expected to contribute significantly to the preservation of historical artworks and the safeguarding of South American heritage.

Funding covers a wide range of conservation activities, and projects are expected to last between one and two years. Recipients must disseminate their findings to advance the fields of conservation and art history.

Who Can Apply

Eligible applicants include conservators, curators, and stakeholders in museums or academic institutions. While international applications are encouraged, there is a particular focus on applicants from Latin America. Projects must involve a preservation/conservation professional leading or working with an interdisciplinary team.
