About this opportunity

The Ocean Innovation Challenge (OIC), implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), has opened its 5th Call for Innovations. The initiative offers up to US$100,000 in financial support to selected private-sector organisations developing innovative solutions to pressing ocean and coastal challenges.

The 2026 call focuses on marine pollution reduction, coastal and marine ecosystem restoration, and sustainable Blue Economy solutions. Up to 10 winning proposals will be selected through a competitive process. The opportunity is open to legally registered private-sector organisations worldwide, including start-ups, small and medium-sized enterprises, private companies, social enterprises, and other eligible private-sector entities.

Innovations must directly benefit one or more of five target countries: Bangladesh, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, and Viet Nam. Applicants do not have to be based in these countries, but the proposed innovation must be implemented in at least one beneficiary country with acceptance from relevant government authorities. Preference will be given to women- and youth-led or owned innovations.

In addition to financial support via a deliverable-based contract under the Model Innovation Challenge Agreement (MICA), selected innovators will participate in an implementation and incubation programme lasting up to 17 months. Support includes technical mentoring, project management assistance, fundraising and investment-readiness mentoring, and global networking opportunities.
