About this opportunity

The First Nation Adapt (FNA) program, administered by Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (Government of Canada), provides contribution funding for climate change adaptation projects led by First Nation communities and organizations located south of the 60th parallel. The program supports initiatives that assess climate change impacts and enhance climate resilience according to self-determined priorities.

Eligible project types include risk assessments of climate change impacts, identification and evaluation of adaptation options, and the development of or access to climate hazard information and adaptation planning resources. Priority areas identified through discussions with First Nations include sea level rise, flooding, wildfires, drought, winter road failures, and other emerging climate priorities. Funding can cover activities such as community discussions, gathering Indigenous Knowledge or science-based data, risk assessments, hazard mapping, and integrating adaptation options into land-use and emergency management planning.

Grant sizes range from $100,000 to $500,000, with total contribution funding of $8.42 million available for the 2026–2027 fiscal year. Proposals are accepted year-round and reviewed on an ongoing basis.
