About this opportunity

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), through its Office of Youth and Women and the World Food Forum Youth Initiative, has opened applications for the World Food Forum (WFF) Young Scientists Group (YSG) 2027–2029. The initiative brings together emerging scientific talent to contribute research, technical expertise and evidence-based recommendations addressing challenges affecting young people and agrifood systems worldwide.

Established in 2022, the WFF Young Scientists Group connects emerging researchers and scientists with international agrifood systems initiatives. The purpose is to ensure that scientific evidence, research perspectives and technical expertise inform youth-led efforts to transform agrifood systems—encompassing food production, processing, distribution, consumption, and associated social, economic and environmental factors.

Members of the group will provide scientific and technical advice, contribute to research and evidence synthesis, help develop a biennial report addressing youth in agrifood systems, engage in science-policy dialogues, and participate in interdisciplinary collaboration across international food and agriculture discussions. Selected members must dedicate approximately 20 hours per month to group activities on a voluntary basis.
