About this opportunity

The International Marine Animal Trainers Association (IMATA) Conservation Fund, established in 2011, provides financial support to third-party nonprofit organizations carrying out conservation-focused projects. The fund supports initiatives that address important marine conservation challenges while encouraging communication, professionalism, and collaboration among professionals involved in marine mammal science. This includes individuals and organizations working in areas such as animal training, public display, research, husbandry, conservation, and education.

The IMATA Conservation Fund aims to make meaningful contributions to marine mammal science and conservation-related issues, support and strengthen conservation efforts globally, increase awareness among IMATA members, promote the "IMATA Gives Back" philosophy, and encourage greater participation of members in conservation-oriented activities.

Applications are reviewed by the IMATA Research & Conservation Committee's Conservation Fund Sub-Committee, which verifies eligibility and submits recommendations to the IMATA Board of Directors for final funding decisions. Applicants and project managers are informed of the Board's decision within three months of submitting their application, and approved funds are made available within three months of award notification.
