Residential Solar Battery Storage Deployment Reaches 37 Percent as Grids Shift

Distributed Storage Accelerates Across Mainstream Energy Markets

Data from global market tracking shows that residential solar battery storage deployment expanded dramatically through 2025, with 37 percent of all new home solar installations featuring paired battery storage. This represents a significant acceleration from 2024, when the residential storage attachment rate stood at 25 percent. The figures, drawn from a comprehensive dataset of approximately 450,000 new distributed systems representing the vast majority of distributed solar activity, confirm that storage is transitionary no longer; it is becoming the default baseline for rooftop solar engineering.

The geographical breakdown demonstrates that policy reform is driving hardware choices. In primary testbeds like California, where revised net billing frameworks drastically reduced compensation for unbuffered daytime solar exports, the residential battery attachment rate climbed to 74 percent in 2025, up from 58 percent the prior year. Crucially, adoption momentum expanded beyond early-adopting regions. In other states and markets, attachment rates more than doubled, rising from 7 percent to 17 percent within twelve months.

Non-residential distributed solar projects also demonstrated steady gains, with storage attachment reaching 11 percent nationally, up from 7 percent in 2024. While the median storage energy
