Why Nigeria's Rooftop Solar Target Fails on the Ground, and What We Must Do Instead

Federal energy officials recently announced ambitious rooftop solar expansion targets across the country. Yet, recent energy industry assessments confirm what those of us working in Akwa Ibom State already know: the Nigeria rooftop solar pledge has the right idea but isn't achievable under current structural conditions. Sitting in Uyo and monitoring renewable energy deployment across the Niger Delta, I see federal policy drafters repeatedly make the same mistake. They mistake lofty megawatt targets for actual operational capacity on the ground.
